02 / After Your Surgery
Post-Op Instructions
General recovery guidance for after your procedure. Your surgical team will give you instructions specific to your operation. You can download the full post-op instructions below.
01 · Bandages
Remove the larger outer bandage the day after surgery. The inner Steri-strips fall off on their own in 7 to 10 days; if they are still on after 10 days, you may peel them off.
02 · Showering & Activity
You can shower the day after the outer bandage comes off, but do not soak the incisions (tubs, pools, lakes) for 3 weeks. Avoid lifting more than 10 pounds for 6 weeks and hold off on exercise for 4 weeks to prevent an incisional hernia.
03 · Diet & Digestion
Stick to liquids the evening of surgery and stay hydrated, then resume your regular diet the next day. Constipation is common after anesthesia and pain medicine, so start a laxative if you have not had a bowel movement within 2 days.
04 · When to Call
A small bump under the incision and a fever the night of surgery can be normal. Call the office at 210-504-1014 for a fever 2 to 3 days after surgery or any other concerns. After hours, the line connects to the paging service.

Frequently Asked
Do robotic operations have less post-operative pain?
In most cases, yes. But this is not true in all cases and is specific to each operation. Please discuss this with your physician.
Can you operate at a surgical center where my out-of-pocket cost is up to 60% less than at a hospital?
Yes we can. In fact, we are one of the few groups who have access to a surgical center that can offer robotic surgery.
How quickly can I return to work after surgery?
In many cases, you can return to work within one or two days of the operation. However, you will be limited physically for 3-6 weeks depending on the details of your operation.
Will I need pain medicine after robotic surgery?
Pain medicine is usually needed for 1-5 days after surgery. However, in our experience, most patients report little to no pain after many robotic operations. This is different with each operation.
Is my operation covered by insurance?
Every operation we offer is medically indicated and will be covered by your insurance according to your benefits contract.
